R280 000 gone in 90 seconds

An iStore was robbed at the Glen Shopping Centre in a mere 90 seconds.

The iStore at the Glen Shopping Centre, in Ekurhuleni, was robbed of display units to the value of about R280 000 at about 10.50pm on Tuesday, December 6, Comaro Chronicle reports.

Five suspects in a white Kia Rio, new shape, entered the premises at 10.51pm and walked directly to the iStore. Two of the males had crowbars and smashed the glass panel. The men stole the display units at the store, estimated at R280 000, in about 90 seconds.

At about 10.53pm, the suspects ran out of the building. Thereafter the cleaning supervisor called for backup via radio.

The guards chased the men and ran to close the gate but were unlucky. The suspects made it out with the stolen items. The iStore manager received intrusion alerts, and the alarm and security companies were alerted.

The mall reaction team pressed the SOS panic buttons, and a reaction team arrived thereafter.

Police arrived and opened a case of burglary and theft, and the client was informed of what had transpired.

Spokesperson at Moffatview Police Station Constable Rebecca Bila confirmed that a case of burglary at a business premises had been opened, and it was still under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
