Conversations with a stranger: from Turkey to Glenvista

The CHRONICLE speaks to Fahmida Khan, a service consultant at Columbine Square.

THE CHRONICLE took to the streets to find a conversation with a stranger and we bumped into Fahmida Khan, who is a service consultant at Capitec Bank in Columbine Square.

The 25-year-old was willing to share some of her life story with us. Fahmida is a proud resident of Glenvista who was born in Turkey and raised in the Eastern Cape, where she spent her childhood and attended primary and high school. Fahmida then studied in KwaZulu-Natal before moving back to the Eastern Cape to work as an educator.

Fahmida got married last year and moved to the South where her husband was working and living.

“I love it here in Glenvista,” said Fahmida. “I came from the Eastern Cape and there is not much there. It was a big culture shock moving here. Back in the Eastern Cape there are only farms and farm people who are laid back. The South is an amazing community of people and there is hardly any traffic!”

The consultant has been working at Capitec for about six months and is also studying finance.

“Finance is my passion, but I also enjoy reading, art, movies, gym, swimming, watching series and I love animals,” she said.
